Abstract

"Cellulosic Separators & Polymer-based Current Collectors"

In recent years, efforts have been made to extend the cycle life of Li-ion batteries (LIBs) owing to the difficulty in recycling and disposal of these batteries. Degradation of a cell is accelerated by the presence of water in the electrolyte which results in reduced cyclic capacity of the LIBs. Cellulose-based nonwoven separator developed by Soteria has shown excellent water scavenging capability. This composite nonwoven separator has also shown improved thermal stability and increased cell safety. In this talk, the correlation between surface area, amount of separator, and scavenging capability of cellulosic separators is discussed.
